A note can be run in several ways. Bitácora doesn't sell you the AI: it uses yours.
Ways to run
| Way | How it works | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|
| My Claude, with the connector | You start the batch from your Claude chat and the canvas updates on its own. Your Claude subscription covers it | People who already use Claude (how to connect it) |
| The built-in AI | It runs here, in the background, with your Claude API key | People who'd rather not open another chat |
| My AI, through files | Claude Code, Cursor, or another agent works on your computer in the project folder. It doesn't need the connector | People who work with a local agent |
| Test without AI | It leaves a mark on each screen so you can test the whole cycle | Testing without spending |
Set up running
In the settings menu of the notes strip, choose Set up running:
- Your Claude API key: paste your key (it starts with
sk-ant-) and save it. It's checked and never shown in full again. - Runs with: My general key, a Key for this project, or None: use the connector (MCP). When you hover over each option you see whose key it is and who pays.
- What gets run: Only my notes or Everyone’s (in a shared project).
- Click Run.
If you have nothing to run with in someone else's project, you can Lend my key to this project and stop lending it whenever you want.
With your AI, through files
- In the sheet, choose My AI, through files and click Prepare.
- In Copy this for your AI, click Copy for my AI and paste it into Claude Code, Cursor, or your agent. It needs access to the project folder.
- When your agent finishes, click My AI is done and Bitácora picks up what changed.
If you close the window before that, the batch stays open waiting for your AI, with See the instructions to get back to it.
Your keys and approving each batch
In Settings › Artificial intelligence:
- My AI keys: save several named keys, choose which one is The general one, and see how many projects use each one.
- Confirm each batch before running it: before each batch, including the ones your AI requests through the connector, Bitácora asks you Run this batch? with Allow and Reject. It's off by default.
Who can do it
Running and lending your key require the Can run with AI role. Choosing which key the project uses is up to the Owner.
